When Ohio State faces Nebraska on Saturday, the Buckeyes could be without one of their best defensive backs.
During a brief press conference inside the Woody Hayes Athletic Center on Wednesday, Ryan Day said Lathan Ransom's health is improving, but the veteran Ohio State safety is still "day-to-day" as the Buckeyes prepare for the home game against the Cornhuskers.
In addition to his comments about Ransom, Day also commented on Zen Michalski, Lorenzo Styles Jr., the Oregon game and more.
Here's all the need-to-know information from Day's most recent press conference:
- On his experience at Temple in 2006 with Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule: "That was my first full-time job. That was a big task taking that over. ... For me, as an assistant, I learned a lot about recruiting and a lot about football. I have some really good memories. ... Matt really did a great job. ... (He) had a really big part of what went on at Temple."
- On Zen Michalski: "You're seeing him work hard. ... Communication has been good on that side. ... I know he's excited about playing on Saturday."
- On Oregon's 12-man penalty: "It's a competitive game. Everybody is gonna do everything they can to win the game. That's the way I look at it, I guess."
- On when Ohio State moved on from the Oregon game: "Once we got out here on Wednesday, it was time to move on. ... We feel like we're in control of our future, and that's it. ... For us, we are in control of what's happening moving forward."
- On Ohio State's depth stepping up in the second half of the year: "You're starting to see Lorenzo Styles get more and more reps." Day also mentioned Jermaine Mathews Jr., Malik Hartford, Jaylen McClain and Kayden McDonald as players who need to step up for the Buckeyes during the home stretch.
- On Lathan Ransom's injury: "There's nothing long-term anyway. He'll be day-to-day right now. He's improving. We'll see how tomorrow goes."
- On Michalski playing left tackle over Tegra Tshabola, Austin Siereveld and Luke Montgomery: "We felt like Zen did well in the preseason. Because Josh had been making so much progress, his name didn't come up a bunch... (but) they really like where his progress was. ... We do have contingency plans in place, but we all felt confident in Zen going into the game. ... I thought he's had a good week of practice."
