Garrett Wilson’s two one-handed touchdown catches in Week 9 earned him the AFC Offensive Player of the Week award.
The former Ohio State wide receiver, who is now in his third season with the New York Jets, earns an NFL player of the week award for the first time in his career after he caught nine passes for 90 yards in the New York Jets’ 21-13 win over the Houston Texans last Thursday night, highlighted by what will likely go down as the NFL’s catch of the year.
Wilson’s 26-yard touchdown catch in the fourth quarter of that nationally televised win immediately garnered recognition as one of the greatest catches in NFL history. In an incredible display of ball skills and athleticism, Wilson reached high into the air to snag Aaron Rodgers’ throw with one hand at the back of the end zone before getting his shin down just inside the out of bounds line to secure possession.

Before that, Wilson also had another one-handed touchdown catch in the third quarter when he plucked a pass out of the air with his right hand and never broke stride on his way to the end zone for a 21-yard score.

Wilson is the first Ohio State receiver to win an NFL Player of the Week since Michael Thomas won the NFC Offensive Player of the Week in 2018. He is the first Ohio State player at any position to earn an NFL Player of the Week award this season.
The accolade continues what has been an excellent third NFL season so far for Wilson. He currently leads the entire NFL with 60 receptions and ranks third in the league with 663 receiving yards, while his five receiving touchdowns this year are already a career-high.
Wilson was one of four former Ohio State players to score two touchdowns in Week 9 along with Jaxon Smith-Njigba, J.K. Dobbins and Terry McLaurin. Collectively, they became the first quartet of former Buckeyes to all score two touchdowns in the same NFL week.
Halfway through the NFL’s 2024 regular season, former Ohio State wide receivers have combined to catch 252 passes for 3,114 yards and 22 touchdowns, the most of any school.
