Ohio State football reporters had the opportunity to watch the Buckeyes practice for the first time in four months on Tuesday.
As part of the College Football Playoff’s media protocols, Ohio State opened the start of its Tuesday practice to credentialed media for a brief viewing window as the Buckeyes prepared for Tennessee. Eleven Warriors was on the scene to capture some footage from the practice, and you can watch those clips in the video at the top of the page.
The most notable takeaway from the practice came at the very end of the viewing window as Ohio State ran a rep with its full offensive line. Luke Montgomery, who Ryan Day said Monday would see playing time at guard against Tennessee, lined up at left guard with the first-team offensive line alongside left tackle Donovan Jackson, center Carson Hinzman, right guard Tegra Tshabola and right tackle Josh Fryar.
Austin Siereveld, who started Ohio State’s final two games of the regular season at left guard after Seth McLaughlin went down with his season-ending injury, was with the second-team offensive line.
Also of note on the offensive line, Zen Michalski was a participant in practice after missing Ohio State’s final five games of the regular season with the injury he suffered in the fourth quarter against Nebraska, a game he started at left tackle after Josh Simmons went down with a season-ending injury against Oregon.

The only players present at practice who were not participating due to injuries were McLaughlin and walk-on quarterback/running back Mason Maggs. Simmons was not present at practice as he has left the team to focus on rehabbing and preparing for the NFL draft, nor were four of the six Buckeye backups who have entered the transfer portal: quarterback Air Noland, wide receiver Jayden Ballard, linebacker Gabe Powers and offensive tackle Miles Walker.
Backup quarterback Devin Brown and wide receiver Kojo Antwi, who are still with the team despite entering the portal, were both participants in practice.
Fourth-string quarterback Lincoln Kienholz was practicing as Ohio State’s scout team quarterback, wearing a red No. 8 jersey to simulate Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava.
Visitors at Tuesday’s practice included former Ohio State running back Maurice Clarett, who has spent time around the team all season.
