Ohio State's running back room will be a bit thinner for the remainder of the team's College Football Playoff run.
According to Jeremy Birmingham of Rivals, freshman running back Sam Williams-Dixon has completed his paperwork to enter the transfer portal. He will not remain with the Buckeyes in their quest for a national championship.
A three-star recruit out of Pickerington, Ohio, Williams-Dixon arrived at Ohio State as the No. 661 overall prospect in the 2024 class. He and fellow freshman running back James Peoples (the No. 114 overall prospect) served in depth roles behind all-conference ballcarriers TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins in the regular season. Williams-Dixon collected a combined seven carries for 53 yards in three appearances against Akron, Western Michigan and Purdue.
Williams-Dixon becomes the 12th Ohio State player to enter the transfer portal this winter, following Gabe Powers, Jayden Ballard, Kojo Antwi, Devin Brown, Miles Walker, Air Noland, Jayden Bonsu, Zen Michalski, George Fitzpatrick, Patrick Gurd and Mitchell Melton.
Powers (Kansas State), Ballard (Wisconsin), Walker (Boise State), Noland (South Carolina), Bonsu (Pitt) and Michalski (Indiana) have found new homes, while Antwi, Brown, Fitzpatrick, Gurd, Melton and Williams-Dixon are still in search of their next schools.
Of the 12 Buckeyes who entered the transfer portal, only Antwi, Brown and Michalski have decided to remain with Ohio State for its entire College Football Playoff run.
