Ohio State holds off Notre Dame, 34-23, to win the program's ninth national championship.
TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins are the third pair of Ohio State players to both rush for 1,000 yards in the same season.
Both of Ohio State’s running backs surpassed the 1,000-yard rushing mark for the season in Monday’s national championship game, becoming the first pair of Buckeyes to both reach quadruple digits rushing in the same season since running back Carlos Hyde ran for 1,521 yards and quarterback Braxton Miller rushed for 1,068 yards in 2013.
They’re only the second pair of running backs from Ohio State to both rush for 1,000 yards in the same season, joining Archie Griffin (1,450) and Pete Johnson (1,059) in 1975.
Henderson and Judkins both entered the national championship game needing 40 yards or fewer to reach the 1,000-yard mark. Henderson had rushed for 967 yards and 10 touchdowns on 132 carries and Judkins had rushed for 960 yards and 12 touchdowns on 183 carries.
Henderson hit the 1,000-yard mark by running for 37 yards on seven carries in the first half. Judkins reached the milestone on Ohio State’s second play of the second half as he ran for 70 yards, the longest run in CFP title game history.
