A member of Ohio State’s support staff is currently on administrative leave due to a university investigation.

Ohio State quality control coach Joe Lyberger, a defensive assistant who has worked with the Buckeyes’ linebackers, was placed on administrative leave in December amid an investigation by Ohio State’s Office of Institutional Equity, which investigates accusations of harassment, discrimination and sexual misconduct.

A letter was sent to Lyberger by Ohio State’s human resources department on Dec. 27 informing him that he would be placed on leave effective immediately and that he would not be permitted at Ohio State’s facilities while he is on leave. The letter, which Eleven Warriors obtained through a public records request, did not specify the allegations against Lyberger.

“My client and I take any allegation of wrongdoing very seriously,” Sam Shamansky, an attorney representing Lyberger, told the Columbus Dispatch, who initially reported the news that Lyberger was placed on leave. “We respect the process whereby those who are accused have the opportunity to defend themselves, and we look forward to the opportunity.”

A graduate of Slippery Rock University, Lyberger has been on Ohio State’s staff since 2021 after previously working at Bucknell and Ohio Dominican.
