Remember When... Ohio State blanked Oregon at Autzen Stadium?
On Oct. 7, 1967, Ohio State and head coach Woody Hayes traveled west to Eugene, Oregon. In front of 25,000 fans at Autzen Stadium, the Buckeyes defeated the Ducks, 30-0, behind a two-touchdown performance from fullback Paul Huff. It was one of six victories for Ohio State in 1967 — a year where the Buckeyes went 6-3 with a 24-14 win over Michigan in Ann Arbor.

Against Oregon, fullback Jim Otis scored first for Ohio State, capping off a well-orchestrated drive with a 1-yard touchdown run. Three minutes later, following a three-and-out from the Ducks' offense, the Buckeyes extended their lead when running back Rudy Hubbard ran in a 3-yard score. Ohio State would put three more points on the board before the intermission as kicker Gary Cairns converted from 35 yards out.
With Ohio State leading 17-0, Huff took over in the second half, scoring a 6-yard touchdown in the third quarter and a 1-yard touchdown in the fourth to make 30-0 in favor of the Buckeyes. Those scores ended Oregon's hopes for a comeback in front of their home crowd and allowed Ohio State to secure its first win of the season on the road in Eugene.
Ohio State had 375 yards of total offense against Oregon, including 272 yards on the ground and 103 yards through the air. Otis led the team’s ground attack with 22 carries for 95 yards and one touchdown, while Huff added 14 carries for 39 yards and two scores. Bill Long, Jerry Ehrsam and Kevin Rusnak combined for the Buckeyes’ 18 pass attempts in the game. Long completed 7 of 15 passes for 69 yards, Ehrsam completed both of his passes for 27 yards and Rusnak completed one pass for 7 yards.
The Ohio State defense limited Oregon to 117 yards of total offense (70 rushing, 47 passing) and eight first downs in the contest. The Buckeyes also intercepted quarterbacks Tom Blanchard and Eric Olson four times and forced the Ducks to punt six times.
In Ohio State and Oregon's 10 all-time meetings, the 1967 matchup between the Buckeyes and Ducks was the lone game to occur at Autzen Stadium. That will change in 2024 when Ryan Day and Ohio State will travel to Eugene in Week 7 for what could be a top-five showdown with Dan Lanning and Oregon.
Ohio State is 9-1 against Oregon all-time. The Ducks won the most recent meeting, however, defeating the Buckeyes, 35-28, in Columbus on Sept. 11, 2021.
