Ohio State blows out Indiana, 38-15. Now, it's time to do the same to That Team Up North.
The Buckeye women faced North Dakota again this evening, one night after UND ended Ohio State’s six game winning streak.
Just as they did in Friday night’s contest, the visitors kicked off the scoring. Gracen Hirschy beat Buckeye netminder Stacy Danczak with less than a minute remaining in the first period. North Dakota was whistled for three penalties in the opening frame, two of which resulted in Ohio State power plays, but UND goalie Shelby Amsley-Benzie continued her strong play in net, denying each Buckeye shot.
goals by period | 1 | 2 | 3 | final |
---|---|---|---|---|
North Dakota | 1 | 0 | 0 | 1 |
No. 9/10 Ohio State | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Amsley-Benzie continued to be the story of the game. She walled off the North Dakota net in the final two periods just as she had all series long. The Buckeyes recorded 31 total shots in the game but couldn’t solve the UND tender. This series marks the first time the Buckeyes have been completely shut out in a series since early October when they were swept by Wisconsin.
Danczak finished the game with 25 saves for the Scarlet and Gray. Julia McKinnon led the Buckeyes in shots with a total of six. Ohio State was 0-for-3 with the man-advantage. North Dakota did not have a power play opportunity in the contest.
The lady Bucks have a bye next week. They return to the ice January 30th and 31st when they travel to Minnesota to take on the No. 2 Golden Gophers.
