Greetings, puckheads. It’s been a while since we’ve convened this early in the week. However, we gather together on this damp (in Ohio, anyway) Tuesday to celebrate Buckeye hockey’s return to the Big Ten’s Stars of the Week.
Top point man and all-around useful dude Mason Jobst is the conference’s First Star of the Week. He led the B1G in points last week, collecting five in the Buckeyes’ series with Michigan State. He even outdid his stunning 1.38 points per game average.
The Indiana native showcased mad special teams scoring skills against the Spartans. On Friday he netted a shorthanded tally and set up two of Ohio State’s power play goals. In Saturday’s contest he potted a PPG of his own and helped orchestrate Dakota Joshua’s game winning man-advantage goal.
These points bring the stellar sophomore’s season total up to 47, 16 goals and 31 assists. It is the most prolific point production by any Buckeye since R.J. Umberger’s 53 point mark in 2002-03. Jobst already has 77 career points to his name and is on pace to rank among OSU’s all-time best.
This is Jobst’s second B1G Star of the season and the first for the Bucks since early February. Tyler Sheehy (Minnesota) and David Goodwin (Penn State) are the conference’s Second and Third Stars, respectively.
Jobst and the Bucks are back in action this week when they close out their regular season schedule at Wisconsin. Games are scheduled for 8pm ET on both Friday and Saturday. The season finale is set to air live on BTN.
- Ohio State is No. 15 in the both the USA Today/USA Hockey and USCHO polls.
- The Buckeyes slid to No. 17 in the PairWise rankings.
