Sophomore Mason Jobst was named First Team All-Big Ten after posting career numbers this season. He racked up 34 points in 20 B1G games. He contributed in nearly every conference contest. Jobst was held pointless in just three Big Ten outings. He shares the 2016-17 conference scoring title with Minnesota’s Tyler Sheehy. He is the only Buckeye other than Ryan Dzingel to ever earn First Team All-B1G honors.
The Big Ten’s Second Team includes three of Ohio State’s senior leaders. Nick Schilkey claims one well-deserved spot. He led all B1G players in overall goals (26) and tied for third in conference goals scored (12). The Buckeye captain has, in addition, led by example throughout the season, being just as willing to block a shot as score a goal.
With injury sidelining classmate Drew Brevig, stalwart blue liner Josh Healey shouldered much of the leadership responsibility for the Buckeye defense during Big Ten play. He led the D corps in offensive production, recording 24 points overall and 11 in conference action. These are the second consecutive All-B1G Second Team selections for both Healey and Schilkey.
Ohio State’s third member of the Big Ten’s Second Team is goaltender Christian Frey. The Arlington, Texas native started 15 B1G games for the Bucks this season. He finished with a .916 save percentage in those contests, a stat second only to Michigan’s Zach Nagelvoort (.922) who played in just nine outings.
Sophomore Dakota Joshua finished the regular season on tear, piling up points in seven of the final nine games. He is an honorable mention for the all-conference teams. 2016-17 was a career year for the Michigander. He posted 33 points on the season, 20 of which came in Big Ten games.
Senior goaltender Logan Davis is Ohio State’s Sportsmanship Award recipient. The homegrown hero, hailing from Upper Arlington, manned the Buckeye net in three games this season. There were zero goals allowed on his watch.
The Buckeyes, along with their slightly less honored teammates, are headed to Detroit this Thursday to begin the B1G tournament against Michigan State. Opening faceoff is set for 4:30 p.m. All Big Ten tourney games air live on BTN and are available to stream via BTN2Go.
