The men’s hockey Buckeyes threw 57 shots at Rensselaer goalie Chase Perry on Friday night. If they’d had a kitchen sink they would have thrown it too. Although, it probably wouldn’t have found the back of the net either.

Ohio State came out firing and never let up. Nine different Buckeyes launched a total of 12 shots on goal in the first period. RPI mustered only four. However Perry didn’t surrender an inch of net. Despite the barrage of Buckeye rubber, the teams were still knotted at 0-0 after the first period.
The Bucks redoubled their efforts in the middle frame, posting a ridiculous 26 shots on goal. Perry again rose to the challenge and turned aside 25 of their attempts. Only one puck got past him. Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Dakota Joshua gave Ohio State a 1-0 lead in the early minutes of the period.
Buckeye Goal Scorer (Assists) | Pd | Time |

The Buckeyes had a golden opportunity to bury RPI following the Joshua goal. A pair of delayed penalties brought a full two minute 5-on-3 for the Scarlet and Gray. However Perry and the Engineers’ penalty killers shut the whole thing down. Eventually Rensselaer rallied behind the gutsy effort of its goalie. Midway through the period Jared Wilson struck with a power play goal, knotting the score at 1-1.
Though Ohio State continued to bombard the RPI net, the Bucks could not find another chink in Perry’s armor. After a scoreless third period the game went to overtime, which was also scoreless. The game officially ended in a 1-1 tie. The teams entertained the fans with an exhibition shootout. The Bucks claimed that, 1-0, in three rounds.
The tie brings the Buckeyes’ season record to 1-1-1. Ohio State outshot Rensselaer by a colossal 38-8 margin in the first two periods tonight and 57-24 overall. The Bucks were led by the third line trio of Joshua, John Wiitala, and Sam McCormick which accounted for 17 of the team’s shots. They just ran into a goaltender who was on top of his game.
OSU takes another stab at Perry tomorrow afternoon in the teams' series ending matinee. The puck drops at 4pm ET. It is Social Media Night at the Schott with special giveaways, prizes, and a full team postgame meet and greet. Fans not attending in person can stream the contest live online with a BTN Plus subscription.
