Goaltender Kassidy Sauve is the conference’s Defensive Player of the Week. The netminder was key to last week’s sweep of No. 9 Robert Morris. She turned aside 78 of the 80 shots she faced.
The pride of Whitby, Ontario completely denied the Colonials in the series opener. The 34 save effort was her seventh clean slate of the season and career whitewash No. 19. It continued a shutout streak which stretched back through the two games prior.
RMU snapped that streak in Saturday’s contest. But Sauve still came through in a contest which saw OSU heavily outshot. She made 44 big stops to lock down back-to-back wins over top 10 competition.
Tatum Skaggs led the Buckeye offense in the sweep. She posted five points, two goals and three assists. It’s par for the course in an outstanding freshman campaign. Skaggs ranks among the top rookies in the in the nation in both goals (15) and overall points (26).
Sauve, Skaggs, and the Bucks are at home again this week to face No. 6 Minnesota. Games are currently scheduled for 6pm ET on Friday and 3pm ET on Saturday at the OSU Ice Rink. Admission and parking are free.
- Back-to-back wins over RMU boost Ohio State (15-5-4, 8-2-4-3 WCHA) up to No. 7 in both this week’s national polls.
- The Bucks are No. 6 in the PairWise rankings, which mimic the selection process for the NCAA tournament.
- OSU freshman Emma Maltais (five points) was an honorable mention for the conference’s Rookie of the Week honor.
