Grip that bandage good and tight because here we go again. Less than 24 hours after losing to winless Bemidji State, Ohio State became the victim of the Beavers’ first series sweep of the year. The Buckeyes dropped a second one-goal decision to BSU.

Scoring by Period 1 2 3 Final
No. 4 Ohio State 0 2 0 2
Bemidji State 0 2 2 4

Both teams returned Friday’s starters to the net. OSU’s Andrea Braendli and BSU’s Kerigan Dowhy dueled to a draw in the first period. Neither side put rubber past the vigilant goaltenders.

Buckeye Goal Scorers (Assists) Pd Time
Charly Dahlquist (Tatum Skaggs, Emma Maltais) 2 6:35
Maddy Field (Sara Saekkinen, Jincy Dunne) 2 12:57

The shooters took center stage in the second period. Bemidji struck first. Abby Halluska netted an unassisted goal. Charly Dahlquist answered for the Buckeyes. Her sixth goal of the season knotted the score at 1-1.

Paige Beebe put the Beavers back on top just over a minute later. But Maddy Field reeled off her fourth goal in as many games to level the score once again. The game-tying tally was career lamp-lighter No. 50 for the Oakville Assassin.

The teams skated into the third period still tied up at 2-2. As is often the case, the difference in the tight contest was special teams. Haley Mack cashed in on a power play early in the frame. This would turn out to be the game winner. Bemidji chipped in an empty netter late in the game to claim a 4-2 win.

After the game, head coach Nadine Muzerall spoke about moving forward from this week's reality check. "I think there's some ownership that needs to be had in the locker room from the top down. They need to reflect and hold each other accountable and [as a] coaching staff we're going to have to circle back around and start Monday...and get after it." The worst team in the WCHA is better than much of the NCAA field. But there is still no silver lining to dropping back-to-back decisions to a 0-9-1 team. The Bucks have some work to do before hosting No. 8 Minnesota-Duluth next week.

  • Ohio State outshot Bemidji State, 34-27. Sophie Jaques (6) led all Buckeye shooters.
  • Maddy Field’s seventh goal of the season earns her a share of the team’s goal-scoring lead.
  • The Beavers went 1-for-3 on the power play. The Bucks were 0-for-3.
