The men’s hockey Buckeyes took care of business in their second half opener against Mercyhurst. No. 5/7 Ohio State outshot the Lakers 44-21 en route to a 3-1 win. The victory was the tenth of the season for OSU (10-4-3).

The goalies, Sean Romeo for Ohio State and Garrett Metcalf for Mercyhurst, dueled through 27:57 of scoreless hockey. Austin Pooley drew first blood for the Bucks, slamming home an alert pass from Brendon Kearney.

Matt Miller extended the Buckeye lead early in the third period. Two quick whistles on the Lakers gave the Scarlet and Gray over a minute of 5-on-3. Miller made short work of the advantage with a perimeter shot through traffic.

Mercyhurst threatened to make a late comeback. An extra-attacker goal cut the Bucks’ lead in half. But a steal by Kearney and a little finish from Mason Jobst resulted in a victory-clinching third goal.

The Buckeyes and Lakers skate again tomorrow night. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 8pm ET. Fans not attending in person can live stream the game with a BTN Plus subscription.
