Wrigley Field lived up to its billing as The Friendly Confines for Ohio State’s hockey teams this weekend.
Following the lead of Ohio State’s football team, which earned a 31-7 win over Northwestern at Wrigley Field in November, Ohio State’s men’s and women’s hockey teams each won their games at Wrigley Field as part of the Frozen Confines hockey series this weekend.
Ohio State men’s hockey kicked off the event on Friday by earning a 4-3 win over Michigan. Riley Thompson led the Buckeyes to victory over their rival by scoring two goals in the final period, including the game-deciding goal with just 38 seconds left to play.

The Buckeyes and Badgers finished regulation and five minutes of overtime tied 3-3, then Ohio State goalie Amanda Thiele and Wisconsin goalie Ava McNaughton stopped the first 13 consecutive shots in a shootout before Ohio State’s Jenna Buglioni finally slipped one past McNaughton to secure the win for the Buckeyes.

The 13th-ranked Ohio State men will play No. 9 Michigan again in Ann Arbor on Sunday (5 p.m., B1G+) before welcoming the Wolverines to the Schottenstein Center for their final series of the regular season on Feb. 27 and 28.
