Though it was playing without its top rebounder and second-leading scorer, the Ohio State women's basketball team knocked off No. 2 Maryland, 98-87, on Monday night.
National Player of the Year candidate Kelsey Mitchell finished with a game-high 31 points and five assists to lead the Buckeyes to perhaps their biggest win in her three-year career.
Ohio State opened the game on fire, shooting 78 percent from the field to lead 35-22 after one quarter. Maryland cut the deficit to two with 14-0 run to close out the third quarter, but the Buckeyes never relinquished the lead.
Ohio State (24-5 overall and 14-1 in the Big Ten) will be back in action against Rutgers on Saturday at 3 p.m. The Buckeyes will clinch the Big Ten regular-season title and top seed in the conference tournament with a win.
