Taylor Mikesell is getting another opportunity to play in the WNBA.
The Atlanta Dream announced the signing of the former Ohio State sharpshooter, who was selected by the Indiana Fever with the No. 13 overall pick in this year’s WNBA draft but was released prior to the start of the season, on Monday.

Mikesell’s release from the Fever increased discourse about the need for the WNBA to expand beyond 12 teams, considering that Mikesell was the first pick of the second round of the draft. Despite Mikesell’s standing as one of the top scorers in her WNBA draft class, the Fever did not have any room on their roster.
Now, though, Mikesell will have another chance to establish herself in the league with the Dream, who had an open roster spot after releasing former Georgia Tech center Lorela Cubaj.
Mikesell joins a pair of first-round picks, Haley Jones (Stanford) and Laeticia Amihere (South Carolina), as rookies on the roster for the Dream, who are 2-3 to start the WNBA season.
The Dream will surely be looking for a boost of 3-point shooting ability for Mikesell, who specialized in long-range scoring at Ohio State, where she averaged 17.9 points per game and made 3.4 threes per game on 44.2% shooting across two seasons with the Buckeyes in which she earned first-team All-Big Ten honors both years.
