After Jaloni Cambridge stole the show in Ohio State’s season opener against Cleveland State, another Ohio State newcomer had a huge outing in the Buckeyes’ second game of the season against Charlotte.
In her second game as a Buckeye, Oregon transfer Chance Gray tied Ohio State’s school record by making nine 3-pointers, leading the Buckeyes to a 94-53 win over the 49ers.

Gray scored 31 pointers for the Buckeyes, shattering her previous career-high of 22 points at Oregon. Her nine threes on 14 attempts tied a record previously set by Kelsey Mitchell, who made nine threes on 20 attempts in a loss to Minnesota in 2015.

With Gray leading the way, Ohio State shot 52% from the floor (32-of-61) with 10 total 3-point makes – Cambridge had the other one – in the Buckeyes’ 41-point win. Ohio State was also dominant on the defensive end, stealing the ball 16 times and holding Charlotte to 35% shooting (19-of-54).
Cambridge left Tuesday’s game early in the third quarter after taking a hard fall on her back and did not return to the game, though she was able to return to the bench where she watched the rest of the game with her teammates after a trip back to the locker room.
In its first game with Katie Smith and Jacy Sheldon on the bench as assistants, Ohio State improved to 2-0 on the season and Kevin McGuff earned his 200th win as OSU‘s head coach (excluding wins that were vacated due to NCAA sanctions). The 12th-ranked Buckeyes will hit the road for the first time this weekend to play Belmont in their third game of the year on Sunday (3 p.m., ESPN+).
