Ohio State is the reigning Big Ten wrestling champion and NCAA runner-up, and the team's 2018-2019 schedule underscores the intensity with which the program approaches competition. The Buckeyes host three of the Top 5 teams from the 2018 NCAA tournament, including a marquee matchup versus Penn State that will be one of the most-anticipated meets of the season.
Action gets underway in early November, and the team will wrestle 14 dual matches along with a pair of tournaments ahead of the 2019 Big Ten Tournament in Minneapolis, and the NCAA Wrestling Championships in Pittsburgh. The season features six home meets, including No. 1 Penn State, as well as Michigan and North Carolina State, who tied one another for fourth place at the NCAA tournament in Cleveland.
The Buckeyes also host Wisconsin in the home opener, and close the slate in Columbus with Nebraska. Road trips include an early season visit to Arizona State, and a season finale trek to Cornell.
The ’18-19 campaign opens in Owings Mills, Md., at the alma mater of Buckeye senior and former NCAA champion Myles Martin, McDonogh School, for a neutral-site dual against the U.S. Naval Academy (Nov. 3). Tournament action will include the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational, where Ohio State will defend its 2018 title, along with a yet-to-be-determined tournament early in the season.
With Kyle Snyder, Nathan Tomasello and Bo Jordan graduating from the program, Ohio State will feature one of the youngest lineups it has fielded in recent memory. The schedule sets up to be one of the toughest dual-meet slates the program has faced, giving the new-look roster plenty of opportunities for growth en route to the postseason.
