Shoutout to all American workers that will say, "You know what? I'll have Cinco de Mayo margs with the work gang" to ostensibly celebrate Mexican Independence before ending up in the local drunk tank on drunk driving charges.
ICYMI:
- Men's volleyball team beat Hawai'i in straight sets. It plays BYU at 7:30 p.m. ET Saturday for the NCAA championship.
- Men's lacrosse topped Johns Hopkins, 15-13, in opening B1G Tournament play. It plays Maryland at 7:30 p.m. ET Saturday night for the Big Ten title.
- Nick Bosa looking to improve, not for comparisons to his brother.
- Mike Weber rushed for over 1,000 yards last year. Ohio State needs more in 2018.
- Heat Check: Ohio State added five 2018 commits in April. Another one could be on the way in May.
- Help put a life-size statue of Woody Hayes in his hometown of Newcomerstown, Ohio.
Word of the Day: Assignation.
WILSON BACKS BARRETT. What I love about local fans is they're a diverse group. It wouldn't be fun to support a team with 800 fans, 687 of which hold the same opinions.
Ohio State's fanbase is big enough to include tinfoilers who don't think the only way J.T. Barrett doesn't start is if he dies.
Those pirates would do well to give up the forks before they get hurt.
From 247sports.com:
“I thought he was a great player as an opponent,” Wilson said [this spring]. “I was just impressed with the way he carried himself and went about his business. As an opposing coach, you could see he had a phenomenal dynamic of being a great leader.
“Being with him, he is significantly better than I thought. He has phenomenal leadership skills. He is very, very driven.”
Wilson said he saw improvement in Barrett from the beginning of spring practice through the spring game.
“I think he got significantly better in the throw game (this spring),” Wilson said. “He has always been a winner and a great quarterback and a run-around guy. But Coach Day has him spinning it good.”
To the militant faction who insists there's a quarterback derby: Put down your arms. There will be enough bloodshed by this time next year. There's no reason to get ignorant now.
BACK DOWN THE TOTEM. Raekwon McMillan went from five-star recruit to backup on Ohio State's national championship team. He left as a two-time captain and All-American.
Like a high schooler who once again has to find their footing in college, McMillan is back on the bottom of the totem pole in Miami. The newest Dolphins linebacker says he's ready to do whatever to earn his way back onto the field.
My controversial #take: Miami will look smart for drafting McMillan. Also, it'd be sweet to work in Miami. My sources say there's no state income tax in Florida.
JAKE SAYS THANKS. The Denver Broncos drafted Jake Butt, who tore his ACL (for the second time) in the Orange Bowl, in the fifth round. On another timeline, perhaps the Pickerington product played for Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl.
From Jake Butt's Instagram account:
A family friend just dropped this off and man it's a hell of a gift. This was at the end of my 6th grade year during career day almost 10 years ago. A classmate of mine brought his dad in, who was part of Jim Tressels staff at the time.
This was after my first year of playing football. He spoke on what it takes to become a successful student athlete and play at the college level. I still remember that speech like it was yesterday and carry many of the lessons with me through everyday life.
Here we are 10 years later and he returned my thank you letter as a gift. Mr Gillum, thank you for helping me spark a career long before I had any idea what the game would mean to me.
I wish we had a machine that could prove Jake Butt would've played at Ohio State if Jim Tressel hadn't incriminated himself via his FOIA-able email. I would wager all $32 of my savings.
COME SING OHIO'S PRAISE. Fake congrats to everyone except Cardale Jones for making the mistake of graduating Sunday:
Ohio State's graduating class is largest in university history for third straight year; enjoy the cold and rain, #youths pic.twitter.com/a3qtqh8r8Z

Enjoy the cold and the rain. But hey, at least you'll always have your time on the campus we folks love to know:
THOSE WMDs. My 14-year-old cousin taught me how to be a cool #teen... The weasel war dance... NYC's mad scientists could literally change our world... Adrian Wojnarowski finally wins his war against ESPN... Chris Rock starts over... In Mexico, "It's easy to kill a journalist."
