Welcome to the Skull Session.

Work.

Have a good Thursday.

“I HATE OHIO STATE WITH EVERYTHING IN ME.” We are so back.

When Ohio State won its ninth national championship, the Buckeyes returned to the top of the college football mountain. That has made countless people upset, including former Georgia offensive lineman Tate Ratledge. On his podcast, Mullets on the Mic, Ratledge seethed while expressing his frustration that Ohio State won a title in 2024.

“I can express this now that I’m not with Georgia football. I hate Ohio State with everything in me. I hate them. I always have, and I always will. I hate Ohio State,” Ratledge said. “My family has always hated them, so I was kind of brought up to hate them. I just never liked them. The fans are cocky, like with The Ohio State University bulls—. Cut that out. No one cares. But Ohio State was the last team I wanted to see win (the national championship).”

The No. 38 overall prospect in the 2020 class, Ratledge spent five seasons at Georgia and started in almost 40 games. A member of two national championship teams, Ratledge was also a two-time first-team All-SEC honoree (2023, 2024) and a first-team All-American selection in 2024.

Ratledge faced Ohio State once in his Georgia career in the 2022 College Football Playoff semifinals at the Peach Bowl, where the Buckeyes fell to the Bulldogs 42-41. He will not receive another chance to face Ohio State on the field as the 24-year-old has declared for the 2025 NFL draft.

That’s a shame.

I would have loved to see Ohio State provide him with more reasons to hate the Buckeyes!

“THERE’S NO STANDARDS AT OHIO STATE.” How about some more Ohio State hate?

Credit to the fabled Eleven Warriors Forum for this #content, but it seems some Notre Dame fans needed a dose of copium after the Buckeyes defeated the Irish in the national championship game.

In a Blue and Gold Illustrated reaction livestream of Ohio State vs. Notre Dame, a viewer asked co-hosts Mike Singer and Tim Hyde whether Notre Dame’s academic standards were a factor in the Buckeyes’ 11-point win over the Irish.

Hyde’s answer had two parts – one where he said, despite Notre Dame’s rigorous academic standards, the program had one of its best finishes in a decade and another where he said Ohio State’s lack of academic standards provided the Buckeyes with an advantage.

“There’s no standards at Ohio State. Zero. The only standard is the lowest one per the NCAA. That’s the standard. It’s a JUCO academically. It just is,” he said. “How do I know? Because I’ve had guys recruited by Ohio State, and I know. Notre Dame went toe-to-toe with those clowns last year. They were in the fourth quarter in the Horseshoe in (Marcus) Freeman’s first game with Tyler Buchner at freakin’ quarterback for cryin’ out loud. This year, man, they battled their butts off.”

For the second time this week, I require this meme:

Blinking Meme

Ohio State has no standards? Ohio State?

Where the football team’s cumulative GPA was 3.3?

Where a program-record 56 players were named Academic All-Big Ten?

Where Seth McLaughlin, Donovan Jackson and Quinshon Judkins were named Academic All-Americans?

Here’s some copium, Notre Dame fans. You need it.

MORE THAN A GAME. OK. That’s enough Ohio State hate. How about some positives to end the Skull Session?

In an appearance on Urban Meyer’s podcast “The Triple Option” with Rob Stone and Mark Ingram, Ryan Day discussed his desire to make an impact in the mental health field in Columbus and at Ohio State. As head football coach for the Buckeyes, Day said it’s important “to be a leader in that area” and to make sure he and the program give back “to all those who do so much for us.”

“Columbus and Ohio State is known for philanthropy and charities. Whether it’s the cancer research hospital or the children’s hospital downtown, you kind of get indoctrinated into that here. I think it’s important as the head coach to be a leader in that area, to make sure we are doing our part and giving back to all those who do so much for us,” Day said. “We have the best fan base in America, so we want to make sure we are giving back. It’s also a great example for our players to see how important it is. Nowadays, NIL is involved, and fans have to travel across the country to these playoff games, so we want to make sure fans understand how much we appreciate them.

“The mental health thing has always been important to me based on the way that I grew up and some of the things I experienced growing up, so through Nationwide Children’s and OSU, I think Columbus is the leader in the country in the mental health space. I think it’s good for Buckeye Nation, for Columbus, for Ohio to see guys who are at the biggest stage there is – these big, strong guys – who are still willing to say, ‘Hey, man, I’m struggling and need a little help just like I do if I sprain my ankle.’”

Hearing and seeing Day’s passion for mental health awareness filled me with pride. He is the complete head coach – one who understands the game of football and, like all of us, does his best to understand the game of life. I am thrilled that he is Ohio State’s leader for years to come!

FOR THE CITY. Before the Columbus Crew host the New England Revolution in their home opener on Saturday, two Buckeyes will set the tone before kickoff.

According to Nicole Shearin of 10TV, the Crew have invited Caleb Downs and Carnell Tate to be Match Ignitors for the regular-season matchup. Some of Downs and Tate’s Ohio State teammates are also expected to attend the game.

Downs and Tate will join men’s basketball head coach Jake Diebler as the latest Buckeyes to be Match Ignitors for Columbus. Diebler brought energy and excitement to the Crew’s Leagues Cup game against New York City FC on Oct. 17, 2024, a game Columbus won 4-2 behind goals from Diego Rossi, Max Arfsten, DeJuan Jones, and Jacen Russell-Rowe.
