There have never been more people in attendance to watch a women’s sporting event than there were at Nebraska‘s Memorial Stadium on Wednesday night.
A world-record crowd of 92,003 people were in attendance on Wednesday night as the Nebraska women’s volleyball team hosted Omaha inside Memorial Stadium, a venue typically reserved for Huskers football games, on Wednesday night.

Nebraska, which has sold out every home volleyball match it has played since 2001 (and 389 consecutive home football games since 1962), broke the previous world record for women’s sporting event attendance of 91,648, which was set in Barcelona, Spain for a Champions League match between FC Barcelona and Wolfsburg in April 2022. The previous attendance record for a women’s sporting event inside the United States was set at the Women’s World Cup final at the Rose Bowl in July 1999, which was played in front of a crowd of 90,185.
Nebraska volleyball, which was reportedly the only women’s sports program at a public Power 6 institution to turn a profit during the 2022 fiscal year, is one of the most prestigious programs in the sport, having won five national championships since 1995. This year’s Huskers are currently ranked as the nation’s No. 4 team by the AVCA and improved to 4-0 on the season with their straight-sets win over Omaha on Wednesday.
