We're not political experts here at Eleven Warriors (or, at least, we pretend not to be), so I don't really have an official stance on the coup in Turkey. I do know that it's important to listen to people who have experienced life in that diverse and fascinating country. So because of that I was really thrilled when Beau said that we'd get to talk to Ohio State legend Jon Diebler about his life playing basketball abroad in one of the top international leagues in the world, which just happens to be located in the middle of one of the biggest stories in the world today.
Don't worry; ol' Threebler is safe and sound here in Columbus, but it's heartening to hear him talk about his love for Turkey and desire to go back and play the game he loves (especially since he's just signed a contract with one of the best teams in Europe).
But it's not just Turkey talk! Diebler talks about Thad, and especially the fiery comments his former coach made about his team, plus his take on the Ohio State basketball team in general, and dishes a little bit on the borderline Scrooge McDuckian contracts some of his former teammates just signed.
Before we started the interview, Beau told me that Jon and his wife were good people. He was 100% correct. The Dieblers are legitimately cool and accommodating, and this is one of the better interviews the Eleven Dubcast has ever had. Plus, you know, this.
0:00- Jon Diebler! In addition to being one of the better interviews we've done, this is also one of the longer interviews. In the first segment, Diebler talks about his time in Turkey and what it's like being an athlete abroad.
13:45- Diebler talks about Thad Matta, the perception of him as a coach, and what Ohio State fans can expect moving forward. Plus, if you want to see what Beau is referring to, here's the video!
28:36- Dunn is done. It's extremely important to make a note that this podcast was being recorded on Monday, just as the initial information was coming out about his suspension from the team and what he allegedly did to deserve it. Because of that, and because we didn't want to speculate on a developing story, most of the talk is about how it relates to the depth chart, which seems callous and trite now given what we know about what he's said to have done. We will talk about those (much more important) issues next week, and how it relates to things we've discussed in the past.
38:26- Rugby is awesome, and we wish all the best to Nate Ebner.
And that's it for this week! No Ask Us Anything, because we need some more of you to ask us anything! Please do so by hitting us up on Twitter or via e-mail, and we will get into it. That's it for this week, we'll see you in exactly seven days.
