It was probably inevitable that Nick Saban would be college football's first 10 million dollar man, but maybe people weren't expecting it to happen so soon. Not many people would argue that he's not worth it, and we certainly don't in the Dubcast this week, but holy macaroni he just got paid.
Still, as Beau and I point out this week, this is all fleeting. Cord-cutting and decreasing revenues will make contracts like the one Nick Saban just signed (and the one Urban Meyer will probably sign in the next few months in response) increasingly rare as schools will struggle to find reasons to justify that salary. So live it up! Also, we hit on the NFL Draft, and take any excuse to rag on the lowest hanging fruit in the history of sports: the Cleveland Browns.
Plus, Ask Us Anything returns with some great questions, and you can get in on the action either via e-mail or Twitter. Don't forget to rate and subscribe on iTunes!
0:00- Nick Saban is rich, but is he the beginning of a trend, or a fleeting footnote on the long ledger of college sports?
18:38- The NFL Draft was really ridiculous for a lot of reasons, but the most important thing to keep in mind is that the owners of teams really only have one motivation, and it ain't social justice.
34:50- Ask Us Anything returns to make sure that we're considering the implications of trades and how they might make college sports much, much better.
And that is is for this week! Thanks to Travis for our cool logo, thanks to you for listening (and check out the Dry Goods Store if you want to support 11W), and we'll see you next week!
