One of my favorite books of all time is A Confederacy of Dunces, which was published posthumously and only then because the mother of the author (John Kennedy Toole) brought the manuscript to a Loyola English professor named Walker Percy and forced his ass to sit down and read it. This is from Percy's forward to the novel:
There was no getting out of it; only one hope remained -- that I could read a few pages and that they would be bad enough for me, in good conscience, to read no farther. Usually I can do just that. Indeed the first paragraph often suffices. My only fear was that this one might not be bad enough, or might be just good enough, so that I would have to keep reading.
In this case I read on. And on. First with the sinking feeling that it was not bad enough to quit, then with a prickle of interest, then a growing excitement, and finally an incredulity: surely it was not possible that it was so good.
This is almost exactly how I feel about Dwayne Haskins and the Ohio State offense right now; surely it is not possible that the dude is this good, this quickly. But hell, he might be, and as a result we've got no choice but to read on and see where this takes us.
Next week will be a challenge, but even after two games, in Dwayne we trust. Beau and I also get to the poor showing by Big Ten teams (again), and of course, the always fun and exciting Ask Us Anything, which you can do via e-mail or Twitter. Also, don't forget to check us out on Google Podcasts and rate and subscribe to us on iTunes!
0:00 Rutgers wasn't much of a challenge, but even a blind dude can see the potential that lies in the Ohio State offense.
15:28 TCU in Dallas should be a lot of fun, but it'd be a lot cooler if we could do a true home and home.
30:47 The Big Ten (outside of Ohio State) needs to get it together! Also Ask Us Anything wants to know the best seats in the Shoe.
And that'll do it! Thanks to our new sponsor MyBookie for keeping the lights on (and don't forget that promo code!), thanks to Travis for our cool logo, thanks to you for listening and checking out our Dry Goods store, and we'll see you next week!
