It's been a minute since sporting venues were fully open to attendees everywhere. Ohio State athletics director Gene Smith announced recently that Columbus will take another step toward a return to normalcy this fall when Ohio Stadium and all of the Buckeye competition arenas will be open to full capacity.
Take a moment to bask in the warm glow of that news. Go ahead, isn't it great?
In this episode of the Dubcast we take a minute to celebrate the news, discuss the nature of pent-up demand for actually leaving the house to experience live sports, and then move right into how full The Schott will be when the Basketbucks suit up against Akron in November.
We'll also discuss the addition of Cedric Russell to the roundball roster, how he compares with the departed Duane Washington Jr., and expectations for Year Five of the Chris Holtmann era.
Holtmann wasn't the only Buckeye coach with recruiting news last week, as Ryan Day earned the pledge of another four-star lineman to further pad his already top-ranked 2022 recruiting class.
Finally, we'll dish on retired numbers, t-shirts as tattoos, and as always we'll tackle your questions in Ask Us Anything (which you should totally do, by emailing your questions to dubcast@elevenwarriors.com).
Run Of Show
0:00 What's this? A role reversal for our intrepid hosts??? Also, Cal Ripken Jr. is a pretty good public speaker, which is neat. Oh, Thad Matta is funny, too.
6:40 All Ohio State sporting venues will be at full capacity for fans this season! O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!
9:12 The Basketbucks should have a decent schedule overall this season... but... that home non-conference schedule, man. Hmmm.
13:45 Cedric Russell will play his final season of college basketball in Columbus, completing the Buckeye roster for 2021-2022. What are the expectations for Holtmann Year Five?
21:40 Malaki Branham will wear Jimmy Jackson's No. 22 this season. What's your favorite retired number in Buckeye sports? What number should Ohio State retire that it hasn't? Let us know in the comments, below.
25:50 Ryan Day got another one! The recruiting machine never stops.
28:45 The Dubcast is sponsored by the Dry Goods Store, where there are t-shirts so cool you may just want to tattoo them on your body. It happens!
33:15 Ask Us Anything! A trio of exceptional questions this week. Well done, listeners. Negative impacts of NIL, Is Miami back (no), and Warren Buffett drops by to play Brewster's Millions with our hosts.
Thanks as always to Travis for the logo, thank you for listening and if you're thinking about what t-shirt you'd like tattooed on your carcass, check out the Dry Goods Store. We'll see you next week!
