Thanks to Buffalo Wild Wings, the Official Sports Bar of Eleven Warriors, The Dubcast got out of the basement this week and hit the road, recording this episode Thursday night in a roomful of rowdy Cleveland Browns fans intent on seeing their team saddle the Broncos (spoiler alert: they left happy).
With six games of the regular season and a bye week out of the way, it was time to hand out midterm report cards. Your intrepid hosts graded each unit of the offense and defense for their accomplishments and shortcomings through the first half of the season, and discussed how the team fits in the overall landscape of college football heading into the most important weeks of the year.
Is C.J. Stroud Heisman-worth? Is the defensive line underperforming? Can your hosts handle the hottest wings on the menu? We answer at least two out of three of those questions – and more.
Plus: Ask Us Anything (which you can do at dubcast@elevenwarriors.com) wants to know how Johnny feels about a hypothetical Ohio State vs. Cincinnati game in the College Football Playoff, and if Luke Fickell will be coaching the Bearcats next season.
RUN OF THE SHOW
0:00 Who doesn't love wings, really? Godless heathens, we suppose. The Dubcast, on the other hand, loves wings.
2:30 Mid-term report cards! Six games down, the Dubcast offers its grade for this team and its constituent units. How much upside is there for this team? Let's start with the offense.
11:15 Urban Meyer was known for using a running quarterback as a safety blanket, sometimes stubbornly so. Does Ryan Day have a safety blanket?
15:30 The offense is exceptional; what about the defense? Let's start with the defensive line and the question if the line is underperforming this season. We'll also get into linebacker play and how much the unit has improved... and how much more they have to improve yet.
25:30 Chaos season continues! Joey Freshwater returns to Knoxville, and the Boilermakers once again turn to the Dark Arts to topple a title-contending team.
28:50 The Buckeyes head to Bloomington for a primetime battle. Indiana is... not good.
35:21 Ask Us Anything! Johnny is not excited about the prospect of a Buckeyes vs. Bearcats playoff game, Luke Fickell is not bound for Ann Arbor any time soon, and Scott from Portland seeks the Dubcast's advice on giving a wedding toast.
46:05 Quick Cals: Malcolm Jenkins channels his inner Ted Lasso, Ed Orgeron is out at LSU, and Urban Meyer finally won his first NFL game.
That's this week's show – thanks to the staff of the Grandview Buffalo Wild Wings for their awesome hospitality, and thanks to all of you who came out to join us this week.
