Gene Smith raised a few eyebrows this week when he suggested that maybe Ohio State shouldn't host a hypothetical College Football Playoff game in historic Ohio Stadium given the possibility of... well, cold weather.
To which every self-respecting midwesterner replied, "Pardon me, did I hear you correctly?"
Sure, Ohio State might prefer if its vaunted passing game not be hindered by inclement weather in December, but on the other hand... who doesn't want to see an SEC team play North of the Mason-Dixon Line well, ever?
Smith did, however, make some sense in his overall discussion of the future of the Playoff, as well as the need for some overarching regulation on NIL as it relates to recruiting and inducement. This week the Dubcast will talk about the AD's takes, as well as the Big Ten's nine-game conference schedule and the future of the conference's television rights package (spoiler alert: billions of dollars every. single. year.).
Oh, and yes, we'll talk about Juwan Howard's seemingly uncontrollable rage and the institutional rot in the Michigan Athletic Department.
Plus, Ask Us Anything (which, as always, you can do by emailing us at dubcast@elevenwarriors.com) talks about great big trucks and how we feel about manly rites of passage.
RUN OF THE SHOW
0:00 The B1G-ACC-Pac-12 alliance won't start scheduling each others' teams in the football non-conference schedule after all. Boo.
04:55 Despite what felt like a movement afoot, the College Football Playoff will not be expanding past four teams any time soon. Again, boo.
12:45 NIL has taken the business of College Football by storm, but that doesn't mean that there aren't kinks and issues to iron out. Should Congress get involved?
18:41 Gene Smith doesn't seem to be a fan of Ohio State hosting a first-round playoff game inside historic Ohio Stadium because of weather in December. Once again we say boooooo.
26:58 As the Big Ten negotiates its next TV rights deal, the pie divided up among member universities could well top a billion smackers per year. Not too shabby!
39:07 Ask us anything! Let's talk some more about great big trucks, and the rites of passage from youth to manhood... specifically lifting very heavy things.
56:14 Basketball! Juwan Howard, head coach of That Team Up North, is apparently a towering inferno of rage and not a nice person, actually.
64:58 Ohio State's basketball team split a pair over the past few days, dropping its first home game of the season against Iowa but bouncing back in OT against Indiana Monday.
And that'll do it! Thanks as always to Travis for the cool, cool logo, thanks to you for listening and checking out the Dry Goods store, and we'll see you next week!
