News of Dwayne Haskins' tragic death at the age of 24 shocked Ohio State fans over the weekend. The outpouring of emotion from fans, former teammates and coaches underscored the quality of the young man as a human being, while his numerous records and accomplishments on the field highlighted what a generational talent he was as a college athlete.
This week the Dubcast remembers Haskins through the lens of the transformational nature of his tenure in Columbus. His arm strength, accuracy and efficiency not only left their mark on the Buckeye record book, but also set the stage for what quarterback play could look like in Ryan Day's offense.
We'll also talk about other program news, including how the current team is shaping up heading into this weekend's Spring Game, and what Justice Sueing's return means for the Ohio State basketball program.
Plus, Ask Us Anything, which you can do at dubcast@elevenwarriors.com, wants to know about what pest we would like to eradicate most, and about our favorite stand-up comedians.
RUN OF THE SHOW
0:00 Dwayne Haskins is gone way too soon. RIP to one of the best to ever sling the rock in Columbus.
10:32 Haskins' tenure as Ohio State's quarterback reset the standards and expectations of what is possible in the Buckeye offense.
19:18 Spring practice draws to a close this weekend, so let's check in on the new-look defense under Jim Knowles.
27:38 The Spring Game is this weekend, but how much cooler would it be if instead of watching a glorified scrimmage, we were watching Ohio State play an FCS school...
31:34 Collective sigh of relief: Justice Sueing will return to Ohio State next basketball season. Crisis narrowly averted.
34:30 Ask Us Anything! Let's talk about our least favorite pests, and our most favorite comedians (no, that is not a punchline in search of a joke).
60:05 Quick Cals: Michigan Man Juwan Howard could be heading to Los Angeles... let's hope for a Harbaugh-like month of speculation and flirtation followed by a contact extension. Oh, and yep, Dabo is still a giant hypocritical dork.
And that'll do it! Thanks as always to you for listening, Travis for our cool logo, and to the Dry Goods store for existing and having all sorts of cool things for you to buy. See you next week!
