Eleven Dubcast: As Ohio State Enters Spring Football, a New Kind of Quarterback Conundrum Confronts Ryan Day

It's back! Not that I'm particularly upset about it; quarterback controversies are generally pretty good content for a sports website, but some part of me misses the salad days of 2022 when the offseason was about wondering how many yards C.J. Stroud was going to throw for instead of who was going to be the next C.J. Stroud.

Obviously it worked out pretty well in the end in 2024. Will Howard, the human equivalent of three Golden Retrievers stuffed into a football jersey, surpassed all expectations to lead Ohio State to a national championship. But Howard was known entity upon his arrival in Columbus. His floor was at least "pretty good," an educated guess reinforced by several years of college football results at Kansas State.

Now, in 2025? Who the hell knows! None of the quarterbacks on the roster have any real, functional experience beyond garbage time reps and the worst bowl game in history, which is both kind of terrifying and exciting for next season. Coaches may be trying to pare down spring football, but damn if it still isn't important.

So that's what George and I get into this week, in addition to talking about an Ohio State men's basketball team that's juuuuuuust about out of March Madness consideration after a very stupid yet predictable loss and our most embarrassing moments as children. Fun!

  • Look, I'm a Julian Sayin skeptic, but at least I'll admit that my haterade is based almost entirely on vibes
  • It isn't fun to contemplate just how close Devin Brown was to being needed during the playoff, but dammit I'm going to do it anyway
  • Jake Diebler's squad isn't quite cooked yet, but barring an improbable Big Ten tourney run it isn't looking good for them
  • Ross Bjork is giving Jake a vote of confidence at least, but saying "I made a good hire because I think the hire is doing good" is kind of telling on himself a bit
  • Ask Us Anything, which you can do by sending us questions to dubcast@levenwarriors.com, wants to FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT
  • Eddie George heads north to Bowling Green
  • Women's Hockey starts their NCAA Tournament run at the Ice House this weekend at 6 pm, and I will see you there! No really, I will!

And that does it for the Dubcast this week! Watch the show now on YouTube above, listen via the mini player below or visit our Transistor page for links to other listening options such as Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and more.
