Ohio State, no doubt helped by burgeoning academics and an elite football team, saw a record amount of prospective students apply to its Columbus campus for autumn semester 2016; Tom Knox of Columbus Business First reported Friday afternoon.
A total of 49,407 people applied, a 7.6 percent increase from last year's record-breaking 45,922 applicants.
For comparison, 29,247 prospective students applied in 2011.
Ohio State has raised its academic standards in recent years. Last year's freshman class posted an average score of 28.9 on the ACT, which broke the university's record of 28.8 set in 2014.
Official numbers on the class of 2020 won't be available until the fall when students officially enroll, though it's clearly a hot ticket.
Fees are due Aug. 16th, and classes begin the 23rd.
