As first reported by Tom Knox of Columbus Business First, Ohio State's 2020 class broke another academic record when fall semester classes started Tuesday morning.
The 7,600 freshmen averaged a 29.2 on the ACT, which broke the old record of 28.9 — set last year by the class of 2019.
A perfect score is 36.
Ohio State, a land grant institution, once practiced open enrollment. However, it began selective admission in 1987 and has diligently worked to increase its academic standards across the board.
As for how good a 29.2 is, here's collegesimply.com:
Is a 29 on the ACT a good score? Yes, it's very good. It places you in approximately the 93rd percentile nationally for all students who took the ACT.
For comparison purposes, a 29 on the ACT converts to a 1360 on the SAT based on College Board concordance for the new SAT.
That ruckus you hear in the distance is the hundreds of thousands of Ohio State alums cheering because the value of their degree just went up.
