Welcome to Campus Connection, the only place where you'll see coverage of the Ohio State pottery club or chess team throughout the interwebs.
Students need to eat. Students need to sleep. Why not do both in one place? Meet Scott House, one of just two buildings at Ohio State (Morrill Tower is the other) that features both a dormitory and a residence hall.
I suppose we will start with the dormitory aspect of Scott House. Once the home of 11w's very own wrestling guru Andy Vance, Scott House was torn down and redone just a few years ago when Ohio State began the remodel of north campus. With the remodel came all new dorms.
Scott House is very unique in the types of dorms that it holds. There are two-person, three-room suites (total of six people) with a shared bath and common room, similar to but smaller than those of Morrill Tower. There are also two-person, two-room suites (total of four people) that have a shared bathroom.
Then there are the traditional two-to-a-room's that most of us know and love, but there are also one-person rooms for those who request or need to be alone.
"I live in a four person suite. I would say it's about four times bigger than a normal double, which is really nice. Scott definitely has some of the nicest rooms on campus," sophomore Gabe Woodcox said.
Another nice feature of the dorm is that it is central walking distance to all of campus, with the stadium and RPAC, High Street, the Thompson Library and most classroom buildings just a 5-10 minute walk.
"Scott is probably the most ideal dorm on campus. I really like living there. It's so close to all my classes and I can basically roll out of bed and be at the stadium," Woodcox said.
Of course, the best perk to being in the dorms at Scott is the dining hall. The Scott dining hall is unquestionably the best of the three located on campus (Kennedy and Morrill being the others) and features many choices, which I have listed here:
- All-day breakfast
- Comfort foods (chicken, mac & cheese, etc.)
- Mongolian
- Mexican
- Traditional (Grilled chicken, hamburgers)
- Ice cream, Yogurt, and salad bars
- Grilled cheese station w/ soup
- Cereal stations
- Coca-Cola Freestyle Machines
Unfortunately for those on south & west campus, like myself, Scott is a decent trek. But it is worth it to avoid the prison food of Morrill Traditions, or the limited offerings of Kennedy Commons.
But for those who live within the luxurious confines of Scott House, it is just a 10-second walk. Unfortunately, the dorm and the dining hall are not connected from the inside, so residents do have to walk the 15 feet or so to get to the eatery.
Overall, Scott House may just be the best residence hall on campus. There really isn't much to say other than that. With the two-headed combination of residence hall and dining hall, it surely encompasses the best of Ohio State.
