McCaffrey had one of his worst seasons with the Hawkeyes in 2024-25, with a 17-16 overall record, 7-13 mark in the Big Ten and a second-round exit in the Big Ten Tournament. Iowa closed out the regular season winning two of its last seven games before beating Ohio State and losing to Illinois in the conference tournament. McCaffrery was ejected from the latter contest.

Across 15 seasons, McCaffrey compiled a program-record 297 wins at Iowa. He also won one Big Ten Tournament (2022) and reached seven NCAA Tournaments (2014, 2015, 2016, 2019, 2021, 2022 and 2023). The furthest McCaffrrey led the Hawkeyes in the NCAA Tournament was the Round of 32.
McCaffery’s current contract with Iowa runs through the 2027-28 season. His deal includes a $4.2 million buyout, though the Hawkeyes can stretch that number out over the next three seasons to make that cost less than $1.5 million per year.
