Ohio State's defense allowed 420 passing yards in its season opener against Indiana and is likely in for a bigger test in its home opener.
Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield, an early favorite to be a Heisman finalist, completed his first 16 passes in the Sooners' season-opening 56-7 win against UTEP on Saturday. He finished with a stellar 329 yards through the air on 19-of-20 passing and three touchdowns to zero interceptions.
Perhaps more impressive was the fact that Mayfield achieved those statistics in one half, as he was replaced in the third quarter by backup Kyler Murray.
Against Ohio State last season, Mayfield threw for 226 yards on 17-of-32 passing, tossing two touchdowns and two interceptions.
Sooner tight end Mark Andrews was a beneficiary of Mayfield's big game against UTEP, as he hauled in seven passes for 134 yards and a score, also all in the first half.
While the Oklahoma offense had a big day, the Sooner defense suffered a setback as cornerback Jordan Parker left the game with what appeared to be a significant knee injury.

Parker started eight games for Oklahoma in 2016, tallying 36 total tackles and three pass breakups. He did not play in the Sooners' matchup with Ohio State.
The Sooners are set to travel to Columbus for a rematch with Ohio State on Sept. 9. The Buckeyes defeated Oklahoma 45-24 last season in Norman, Okla.
