Purdue will still likely be bad at football but maybe they'll be less bad after the school decided to fire Ryan Walters this morning after a 1-11 season and a two-year mark of 5-19.
The Boilermakers endured a 66-0 spanking from Indiana last night to finish the season on an 11-game losing streak and seal Walters' fate.
Ross Dellenger of Yahoo! Sports reported the move means Purdue will owe Walters about $9M in buyout coin.
Walters, the defensive coordinator at Illinois before taking the head job in West Lafayette, helped the Illini rank No. 1 in scoring defense in 2022.
Purdue's defense ranks No. 131 this year in scoring defense allowing 39.9 points per game. The Boilers offense is equally terrible, ranking No. 130 in scoring averaging 15.8 points per game.
One last stat making the rounds for perspective.. Purdue could've started every game this season with a 34-point lead and still went 6-6.
The firing slots Purdue alongside North Carolina and UCF as the three currently vacant P4 head coaching jobs.
