Just posting as I’m not seeing this elsewhere: I know a lot of folks here were in Pasadena a week ago (I was at the Rose Bowl myself), and if you don’t follow news at all you may not be aware that it’s like the apocalypse here. A good chunk of Pasadena and nearby communities has burned (and other communities around LA in other fires).
I left two days after the Rose Bowl to biologize in the Rio Grande Valley. Because of the major wind event in the region, I spent a half hour circling outside of Vegas unable to land on my return. Then, when heading from Vegas to Burbank, spent an hour circling in the desert before returning to Vegas because the Burbank airport closed. I spent the night there and drove back today in a rental.
I am fortunate as my home is intact. But there’s major wind damage all over my neighborhood, my house is in the smoke zone so day is almost like night and it’s raining ash, half the people I know had to evacuate, and I know people who lost their homes. It’s bad. Really bad. I never thought a wildfire could go this deep into urban LA, but I guess that happens with winds to 100 mph. And I’m watching the local news and new fires are starting tonight.
So, be aware that Pasadena today is not Pasadena a week ago.
