He’s obviously doing very well at Cincinnati (much better than I thought he would tbh). But good-to-elite in G5 doesn’t always translate to good-to-elite at P5.
Some coaches dominate at the lower level and even knock off some Cadillac programs in hyped up matchups against CFB powerhouses once or twice a year. But doing it week in & week out in a power conference is a totally different animal. We see it all the time.
Recent examples: Tom Herman excelled at Houston, now he’s struggling in the big chair at Texas.
Scott Frost was a shooting star at UCF, now he’s stuck in mediocrity at Nebraska.
Do you think Luke Fickell’s success would translate to Power-5 glory or do you think he’s better off staying at UC where he can build a fringe top-10 program that maxes out at a certain level?
