Trevor Lawrence is considered by some NFL scouts as practically a generational pick. He has consistently posted outstanding college stats as a bona fide dual threat.
Yet, interestingly, this was his first time as a Heisman “finalist.” And, while he did finish in second place this year, he lost by a decisive margin to a Bama player when there were two Bama stars in theory splitting the vote.
Trevor Lawrence has always seemed gracious at his press conferences and I thought was pure class in the aftermath of the loss to Ohio State.
So this leads me to...is it possible he didn’t do better these past three years in the Heisman vote because of blowback against Dabo? I know feelings about a coach are not supposed to enter into the Heisman picture but is it possible that Trevor Lawrence might have fared better with a different coach if he had the same stats and team success?
I realize Urban wasn’t universally beloved but I think he commanded a lot more respect than Dabo. And, I think in the last couple of years, the ill will generated by Dabo has only increased.
Does anyone else have any thoughts about this?
