The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) has been without football since 2012, but as reported by Yahoo!sports, the conference is going to return on January 14 with play beginning in 2022. Dixie State, Tarleton, Southern Utah, Abilene Christian, Lamar, Sam Houston State, and Stephen F Austin are confirmed to be joining, and there could be more universities joining in the coming months. They will start at the FCS level, but will have a long term goal to get up to the FBS level. It will be interesting to see how quickly they can become competitive and how long it will take for them to upgrade to FBS
