Ohio State conquers Chicago with a 31-7 beatdown of Northwestern at Wrigley Field.
I have to say that I recently re-watched some clips of Freeman coaching and he is an intense and serious guy. It's hard to imagine not taking him seriously when he's trying to teach X's and O's. He seems to be the sort of coach that will make you puke your guts out on the field, but then you'd want to give your life for him afterwards.
Brought-up some questions for me. 1) I actually think he outclasses Brian Kelly in this aspect who is frequently out of control and flipping his lid. To me, this is a major issue. I'm not saying Kelly knows his X's and O's, but in this modern game the Head Honcho is more of a CEO that pushes the system than actually does the nuts and bolts coaching. The assistants do most of it.
Especially, coaching at a Roman Catholic institution. I'm pretty sure they'd, at least, want the projection of self-control and leadership. I'm wondering if Freeman is the the guy who takes over once Kelly finally goes?
2) On the same vein, I took a look at the guy who took over for Freeman at Cincy, Mike Tressel. He doesn't give out the same level of competence, seriousness, and self-control. He doesn't seem to have the same abilities as Freeman. I think Cincy is going to be hurting at Defense unless Fickell takes more control.
Anyways. Just some post season thoughts. (I guess we're into pre season now)
