Notre Dame has made 22 of its 26 (I believe) sports free to attend beginning this year. That means you can watch any sport except football, basketball (men's and women's), and hockey completely without cost. It's framed as wanting to get the local community involved with sports at the University. I don't know what the reasoning is, but it's a nice gesture. Doesn't hurt that Notre Dame has more that $11 billion in an endowment.
Wonder how many other athletic departments will follow suit in the coming years. It's a good idea, since now you've got the opportunity to sell concessions and merch to a bunch more families. Especially with the rise of soccer and baseball's perpetual appeal.
