Hey boxing fans! Last weekend, a pair of OSU fighters (Mustafa and Giaminh) from the Club Boxing Team qualified to attend the National Collegiate Boxing Association Nationals in Charlotte, NC 7-9 April.
Due to the pandemic, this is the first year the club has been able to compete since 2019. Qualifying for Nationals, where they will face fighters from West Point, Annapolis, USAFA and several large schools, is a big deal.
Mustafa is one of the three Midwest regional champions. Giaminh impressed the judges so much that they unanimously decided to have him represent the Midwest region in the open 125-pound weight class.
Because boxing is a club sport, they receive no financial support from the University. In order for Mustafa and Giaminh to “show them Ohio’s here,” they and the club must cover the expense for the tournament.
One of the team’s members started a GoFundMe to raise money for their trip. If you’re so inclined, please consider giving to help them out.
