I haven't seen anything on this. I flipped over to ESPN to the college football section to see if any more coverage on Haskins was on there. I saw this link, and clicked it and went into a deep read that I couldn't get away from. Warning: It's a long read.
Reading through this made me think of how many people are victims of a crime, yet nothing is done because it is swallowed up by the sports machine. I mean the 70's and 80's were the time where big time college athletics and the race to the top was taking off. Local stories turned regional, regional stories turned national. It was a time where obviously in retrospect, many lines were crossed in the effort to help the team. Many times these included interference with local authorities and coaches turning a blind eye when they shouldn't have.
My question is this. How much of this is still going on today? I am positive that minor things are influenced by a player being a regular student or an athlete, but are there still things like this happening? And if so, when does our society start going after the people involved in coverups? We are talking about coaches, law enforcement officers, and county courts that failed on so many levels, at what point does accountability become the norm?
