On Friday, the Los Angeles Times broke a story about how San Diego State University did not file a Title IX investigation regarding an alleged rape incident involving five SDSU football players gang-raping a minor in one of the player's backyard. Apparently, the police told the Title IX office to not launch a formal Title IX proceeding so they could continue their police investigation. But eight months later and no arrests have been made and no warrants have been issued. One of the players graduated and is no longer under SDSU jurisdiction. The incident occurred on October 16 which seems like plenty of time to investigate a rape. To complicate matters further, SDSU is in the middle of fundraising for their new stadium, which is being built on the location of the Charger's old Qualcomm stadium. The are also expanding the campus on that lot as well. Needless to say, there is a lot of money with this development and the rape incident happened at about the worst time possible. Moreover, it was the LA Times, not the San Diego Union Tribune that broke the story, and SDSU football beat reporters have remained silent about the case on Twitter. The whole thing smells like a giant cover-up.
College football has a rape problem.
