USC football has been placed on probation and fined $50,000 by the NCAA for a violation of "on- and off-field coaching activities."
"Eight analysts for the football program engaged in on- and off-field coaching activities during spring 2022, fall 2022 and spring 2023, resulting in the football program exceeding the permissible number of countable coaches by six for two academic years," which violated NCAA rules, according to a release.
Lincoln Riley will not be suspended.
The NCAA determined that while Lincoln Riley is ultimately responsible for the goings on of his team, he wasn’t aware of the infractions being committed. He also corporates fully with the investigation, which likely lessened the consequence.
USC’s season is already in the dumpster and Lincoln Riley appears to have been better off staying in Oklahoma, as USC has not done squat since his arrival. USC’s first year in the B1G has been underwhelming to say the least. This probation can’t be helpful in righting the ship.
