Not only did we play 16 games for the first time and win the Nat Title, but in doing so we did some unusual things

We averaged only 61.8 plays per game this year on offense.  That is the lowest total for a season since 1976 when we averaged only 61.1. In most season we have averaged well over 70 plays a game, even back in the Woody days we were often over 65. 

The defense faced on average only 60.8 plays, the least since 2010 in Tressel's last year when we faced only 60.7.

Combined that is only 122.6 per game. Even in that 1976 season the combined total was 126.7. Even in 1973 we played a combined 123.8 plays Off and Def Combined.

In fact the last time I can find where combined we ran less than 122.6 plays is 1957 when to O ran 62.7 and the D had 52.3 for a combined 115.0. IE fewest total plays per game in the last 67 years!!!

In fact plays per game on offense has been on a steady decline, peaking at 80.7 in 2018 followed by 76.1, 71.3, 70.3, 67.4, 63.9, and this years 61.8. That is a 23.4% decline in average plays in 6 years.
