Ohio State’s Michael Adedokun was the best player in men’s college soccer this year.

The Ohio State senior midfielder was named Friday as the winner of this year’s MAC Hermann Trophy, recognizing Adedokun as the best player in college soccer this season.

Adedokun is the first-ever Buckeye to win the MAC Hermann Trophy, soccer’s equivalent of the Heisman Trophy, which has been awarded annually since 1967.

A native of Nigeria who spent two years at Ohio State after transferring from Dayton, Adedokun was a prolific scorer for the Buckeyes this season, scoring 11 goals and 11 assists to lead the Big Ten in both categories. With Adedokun leading the way, Ohio State won the Big Ten Tournament and a share of the Big Ten regular-season title, earning the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament and making a run to the College Cup before losing to Marshall in the NCAA semifinals.
