Bruce Thornton isn’t going anywhere.

Thornton’s decision to remain in Columbus is a crucial one for the Buckeyes entering Jake Diebler’s first season as head coach. He was Ohio State’s best player during the 2023-24 season, leading the team with 15.7 points and 4.8 assists per game.
He becomes the second member of Ohio State’s rising junior class to confirm he will stay with the Buckeyes, joining Felix Okpara, who made the same announcement on Monday. Those two players, along with fellow junior Roddy Gayle, assuming he also stays in Columbus, will be the Buckeyes’ top building blocks entering the 2024-25 season.
One week removed from the end of the Buckeyes’ season, Ohio State has lost only two players to the transfer portal: Scotty Middleton and Bowen Hardman. The Buckeyes are still looking to add to their backcourt around Thornton, hosting former South Carolina guard Meechie Johnson (who previously played for the Buckeyes from 2020-22) and former Princeton guard Matt Allocco on visits this past weekend.
