In front of 99,931 fans — a new national record for a spring game — Ohio State's Gray team defeated the Scarlet on Saturday afternoon, 17-14.

Most of the Buckeyes' starters were limited to the first two series of the game, but some did get extended play. Quarterback Cardale Jones, who led the Gray team, finished the game 19 for 42 passing for 304 yards and two touchdowns to go along with two interceptions. Stephen Collier, the quarterback for the Scarlet team, went 15 for 33 through the air for 157 yards with a pair of touchdowns and three interceptions.

In what was primarily an all-passing game, Corey Smith led the Ohio State offensive players with six catches for 174 yards and two touchdowns. Jones hooked up with Smith for a 58-yard strike in the first half and the pair connected again in the fourth quarter on a 37-yard strike.

Trailing 10-0, the Scarlet team answered right before halftime when Collier connected with redshirt freshman receiver Terry McLaurin for a 35-yard touchdown as McLaurin went up and made a nice catch in the corner of the end zone.

Collier then found Parris Campbell in the third quarter for a 3-yard touchdown pass to put Scarlet ahead, 14-10.

Nick Conner, playing for the Gray team, led all players with seven tackles in the game. Conner also had an interception and a forced fumble.
